English Language Development
The English Learner Program provides instruction for all students who are learning English. All students receive instruction in content areas based on state-adopted standards. While teaching content standards, teachers integrate state-adopted ELD standards and use them in tandem with state-adopted academic content standards, incorporating strategies to help our Multilingual Learners access the content. In addition to Integrated ELD, Multilingual Learners also receive daily Designated ELD. During this time, teachers focus instruction on the ELD standards to assist English learners to develop critical English language skills necessary for academic content learning in English. Students received Designated ELD until they are considered English proficient by meeting criteria for reclassification. Ultimately, our goal is for all students to reclassify by the end of 6th grade or level up in their English proficiency each year.
Parents are notified annually of their child’s English fluency level and program placement.
